Tax Forms
KCKPL locations only carry limited federal tax forms and NO state forms or federal schedules or instruction books. You can order federal form by mail using the IRS's online request form or by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676). Pre-printed Kansas tax forms are unavailable.
Forms also can be printed by going to the IRS website and the Kansas Department of Revenue website. Don’t have a printer at home or want help printing? You can come to a KCKPL location and print the forms for 10 cents a page. Below are links to some of the most commonly used Kansas and IRS forms.
Tax Preparation
Several organizations both in the community and online can offer assistance with tax preparation.
Use your library card or eCard to find a large selection of Kansas & Missouri legal forms across topics including: real estate forms; wills; power of attorney; bankruptcy; divorce; landlord/tenant; taxes, and so much more! Also access a dictionary of legal terms, attorney directory, and a law digest.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation of federal and state returns to low-/moderate-income working families in the Kansas City metro area. VITA also provides outreach on tax incentives, particularly the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit to low-/moderate-income taxpayers.
This program offers free tax preparation to low-to moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older, with emphasis on ensuring they receive applicable tax credits and deductions. Turner Community Library is fully booked with AARP Tax Help appointments this season. Bonner Springs Library has appointments available on Tuesdays, but you must call on Monday to book them. Kansas City, Kansas Community College still has Virtual Income Tax Assistance available. Call 816-474-5112 for more info.
In cooperation with United Way and other non-profits, this website offers the ability to prepare and file taxes online for free to individuals or families with a household income of $66,000 or less. The software, provided by H&R Block, guides individuals through the process.
The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. Find a provider near you.
MilTax, Military OneSource’s free tax services, provides easy-to-use software that is designed specifically for the military community. MilTax consultants also can help military members and their families take command of their taxes and be the best guardian of their finances and families. Military OneSource also offers practical articles and guidelines on what you need to do to file a successful return.
Offered through the IRS, individuals or families with a household income of $66,000 or less can use free, guided software to prepare and file federal taxes and some state taxes.
