Curbside Hold Pickup at Kansas City, Kansas Public Library

Update: As of March 22, 2021 all branch locations (except Turner Community Library) are back open for public visiting hours but will also offer curbside pickup during limited hours.

How will this hold pickup work? After placing a hold in our library catalog and selecting a branch building to pickup your hold, you will receive an email notice when your hold is ready at your designated pickup location. Grab your photo ID and go to the designated pickup location and call the number (913-295-8250) posted on the signs to reach the staff members inside that branch. You can choose one of two options below for your hold pickup. Scroll down to choose which hold pickup option you would prefer. Let the staff member on the phone know if you would like Car Service or Walk Up Service.

Branch Locations & Information for Curbside Hold Pickup

When your hold is available you will receive an email notifying you that your hold is ready to be picked up. Grab your photo ID and drive to the library location you have selected to pickup your holds. Once outside, call 913-295-8250 and then dial the extension below of the library building you are at. The following extensions can get you to a Library Branch:
Press 1 for Main Library
Press 2 for Schlagle Library
Press 3 for South Branch Library
Press 4 for Turner Community Library
Press 5 for West Wyandotte Library



Two Options for Curbside Hold Pickup

Instructions for Car Service Pickup

    If you would like library staff to deliver your holds to your car follow these instructions.
  1. When your hold materals are available, you will receive an email notice that your holds are ready.
  2. Bringing your photo ID, come to your selected pickup site during designated operating hours 9am-5pm.
  3. When you arrive, call the number posted on signs near parking areas to let staff know you are outside and ready to get your holds.
  4. Identify the make, model and color of your car.
  5. Open the trunk, car window, or car door. Otherwise, remain in your car.
  6. Show your photo ID to staff. Staff will not hold the photo ID.
  7. Library staff will automatically check out your materials to your account.
  8. Library staff will place your holds inside your vehicle.
  9. All returns must be made to the bookdrop. Staff will not accept returns.

Instructions for Walk Up Service

    If you would like to walk up to the library door to receive your holds follow these instructions.
  1. When your hold materals are available, you will receive an email notice that your holds are ready.
  2. Bringing your photo ID, come to your selected pickup site during designated operating hours 9am-5pm.
  3. When you arrive, call the number posted on signs near parking areas to let staff know you are here and ready to pick up your holds.
  4. After calling and speaking with a staff member you may walk up and wait for your hold to arrive.
  5. Hold material for walk up will be placed in tubs or tables in the pickup area.
  6. Show your photo ID to staff. Staff will not hold the photo ID.
  7. Library staff will automatically check out your materials to your account.
  8. All returns must be made to the bookdrop. Staff will not accept returns.
