Welcome to our Library Joy Series in honor of National Library Week! Here we are highlighting some of our amazing staff to share how and why they love what they do. Next up is Patrice, the Branch Manager at Mr. & Mrs. F. L. Schlagle Library.
Why did you decide to get into Library work?
I have always loved libraries. I have worked in them for several years. After I came back from Peace Corps, I wasn't sure what to do, but I have always been a fan of literacy.
What is your favorite part about working for a library?
Watching the kids faces when they start out scared of an animal and then get brave enough to touch an animal!
Do you have a book or collections recommendation?
The Pocket Pawpaw Cookbook.
What's a fun fact about you?
I was actually born on Earth Day (April 22nd). So, my mom always says my job is very fitting. And, everyone always tells me "Happy BEarthday" on my bday!
Keep checking back all week to meet more of our staff or stop by one of locations today!
The Pocket Pawpaw Cookbook
In The Pocket Pawpaw Cookbook, Sara Bir sets the humble pawpaw center stage, with detailed information on how to harvest, source, store, and--of course--cook with these uniquely Midwestern delicacies. Here you'll find recipes for pawpaw cornbread and pawpaw pudding; key lime pawpaw cheesecake and banana-pawpaw ketchup. Sidebars address questions as varied as 'where can I buy frozen pawpaws?' and 'how do I use pawpaw in a cocktail?' Written with humor and love for a curious subject, The Pocket Pawpaw Cookbook will inspire you to experiment in the kitchen and get out into the woods.
