Welcome to our Library Joy series! In honor of National Library Week, we wanted to highlight some of our amazing staff and share how and why they love what they do. So, we decided to interview a few of them.
First up is Maggi, the Youth Services Supervisor at Main Library.
Why did you decide to get into Library work?
I started out in my big girl job as a teacher before I worked in libraries. I had a student who was gone from school for a period of time and missed finishing her report. At her conference, her mom brought in the report, and when I asked how she completed it on her own, she told me she went to the public library, where the librarians helped her! When I decided teaching was no longer a fit for me, but I still wanted to do many of the things teachers do, my mind wandered back to that conversation. I applied to library school and, within a year, started working at a library near my grad school. I worked at that library for 4 years, and now here for 5.
What is your favorite part about working for a library?
I love the patrons, getting to be a part of the kiddos' library experience and lives is the best part!
Do you have a book or collections recommendation?
My favorite section of the library is our world languages collection. We have books in 40 different languages across all the branches! I think it's so cool that we have so many and I like to go and explore all of them.
What's a fun fact about you?
My kiddo is named after my favorite restaurant!
Check back all week to see more answers from our amazing staff!
