Patron Code of Conduct

The Patron Code of Conduct is enforced to ensure an environment where everyone feels welcome and can access the library's materials and services.  The library may implement temporary changes for public safety.  Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in removal from the premises or loss of privileges.  The library is not responsible for loss of property or personal injury.

INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT THAT MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF PRIVILEGES

  1. Attempting to use another patron's library card to obtain library services.
  2. Engaging in activities not associated with using library materials and services when in the library.
  3. Refusal to follow the instructions of library signage, library staff, or Law Enforcement Officers, including providing a name, providing identification, or removing face masks to allow identification.
  4. Not exiting the library promptly at closing time or when instructed by staff.
  5. Bringing in items unrelated to the appropriate use of the library.
  6. Parking in unmarked spaces or utilizing library parking for purposes other than accessing library services.
  7. All drinks must have secure lids.  Food is only allowed in designated areas.
  8. Personal belongings in the library are limited to one medium-sized and one small-sized item.  Exceptions may be made for medical equipment, accessibility devices, or items used to transport library books or materials.
  9. Destruction, theft, or vandalism of library property or the property of other library patrons.
  10. Loitering, sleeping, lying down, or taking up more space than is needed.
  11. Behavior that is disturbing to others using library facilities is not allowed, including but not limited to:
    1. Loud talking, cell phone use, or electronics.
    2. Gathering in large groups, blocking entrances or walkways.
    3. Monopolizing or inappropriately using library resources, property, or staff time.
    4. Smoking, vaping, ingesting drugs or alcohol, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
    5. Bringing animals other than trained service animals into the building.
    6. Bathing in library restrooms, having unacceptable hygiene, or not being fully clothed.
    7. Viewing obscene or illegal materials on computers in the library.
    8. Sales, solicitation, or behavior that intimidates others.
    9. Gambling on library property.
  12. Behavior considered threatening or dangerous to staff or patrons is forbidden, including but not limited to:
    1. Confrontational or argumentative behavior, verbal abuse, threats, profanity, racial slurs, or bullying.
    2. Physical fighting, violence, assault, horseplay, running, or throwing items.
    3. Stalking, inappropriate comments, or unwanted attention paid to a staff member or patron on library property.
    4. Running between cars, blocking fire lanes, or entering restricted areas.
    5. Lewd and lascivious behavior, indecent exposure, voyeurism, masturbation, or sex in public places.
    6. Bringing weapons of any kind, flammable liquids, or other dangerous items onto library property.
  13. Trespassing on library property or attempting to access staff-only areas.
  14. Any behavior that does not follow applicable laws and statutes.

CHILDREN/ INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

  • Parents are expected to supervise their children in the library.
  • Children aged 8 and under in the library without an adult, children aged 11 and under still at the library after closing, children left in a car, and unattended individuals with special needs may be referred to authorities for their safety.
