Every Wednesday night at 6 pm, we invite you to join us at Mad for the Movies for free screenings of classic films with the intent of exploring and enjoying cinema from every era. Movies are chosen to fit a fresh theme each month which will typically highlight an actor or director, a genre, a time period, or a common plot element. You are welcome to stay after the film for a casual chat or treat it like a theater visit and leave as soon as the end credits roll.
For the month of March, we will be watching movies starring Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn was an actress and fashion icon whose movie career spanned four decades. She was mostly known as the female lead in romantic dramas, but worked in many genres including thrillers, comedies, crime, musicals, and even a little horror. AFI named her the third greatest female star of American cinema behind only Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis. She is one of only a handful of people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
On this night, we will be watching William Wyler's 1953 film "Roman Holiday" starring Audrey, Gregory Peck, and Eddie Albert.
Overwhelmed by her suffocating schedule, touring European princess Ann takes off for a night while in Rome. When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench and is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley, who takes her back to his apartment for safety. At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann’s regal identity and bets his editor he can get exclusive interview with her.
