Every Wednesday night at 6 pm, we invite you to join us at Mad for the Movies for free screenings of classic films with the intent of exploring and enjoying cinema from every era. Movies are chosen to fit a fresh theme each month which will typically highlight an actor or director, a genre, a time period, or a common plot element. You are welcome to stay after the film for a casual chat or treat it like a theater visit and leave as soon as the end credits roll.
Ever since sound came into film, the musical has been a popular genre. With song often comes dance. For this month, we will be showing musicals that contain innovative and influential dance sequences that are still talked about generations later.
On this night, we will be watching Norman Taurog's 1940 film "Broadway Melody of 1940" starring Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell, and George Murphy.
Johnny Brett and King Shaw are an unsuccessful dance team in New York. A producer discovers Brett and wants him to be the new partner for star Clare Bennett, but Brett, who thinks the producer is one of the people they lent money to, gives him the name of his partner.
