Program Description

Event Details

F.W. Murnau was at the forefront of the German Expressionist movement in the 1920s.  Ahead of his time in many ways, Murnau was openly gay, pioneered camera movement in film, and produced two of the earliest horror masterpieces in movie history.  After moving to Hollywood in 1926, his first American film won 2 Oscars at the very first Academy Awards. Unfortunately, his life and career were cut short by a car accident when he was only 42 years old.  We are lucky enough to still have 12 of his films in their entirety, of which we are showing 5 of his best.

On this night, we will be watching Murnau's 1926 film "Faust" starring Emil Jannings, Gosta Ekman, and Camilla Horn.

The demon Mephisto wagers with God that he can corrupt a mortal man's soul.
