Event Details

Whether it's a question of guilt or innocence, an unlikely defense or prosecution, or railing against injustice, courtroom dramas have endured as entertainment in every storytelling medium.  In film, the courtroom drama has produced not only memorable performances and scenes, but also some of the greatest speeches ever put to screen.

On this night, we will be watching Stanley Kramer's 1960 film "Inherit the Wind" starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, and Gene Kelly.

Schoolteacher Bertram Cates is arrested for teaching his students Darwin’s theory of evolution. The case receives national attention and one of the newspaper reporters, E.K. Hornbeck, arranges to bring in renowned defense attorney and atheist Henry Drummond to defend Cates. The prosecutor, Matthew Brady is a former presidential candidate, famous evangelist, and old adversary of Drummond.
