Cryptocurrencies, built on a new technology called blockchain, are changing how people think about and use money. This class will look at where cryptocurrencies came from, the different types that exist, who is using them, and the risks and ups and downs that come with them.

We will also explore an idea from the book The Financial Foundations of Production and Uncertainty, which says that the main job of money is to help people and businesses make and plan production decisions. The class will ask: Can cryptocurrencies do this job?
