    ADULT LITERACY RESOURCE COLLECTION
    BOOKS

    The Kansas City Kansas Public Library Adult Literacy Resource Collection contains books, audiocassettes, and videos on learning to read and write, basic math, phonics, and everyday life skills. There are also fiction books and biographies for the beginning and intermediate reader. Basic information on a variety of subject areas and English as a Second Language materials can also be found in the Literacy area.

    VIDEOS

    Videos that are found in this area will help with learning to read, GED preparation, basic math, and English as a Second Language.

    SOUND RECORDINGS

    Sound recordings in this area will help you with spelling, reading, and english. The library also carries the Hooked on Phonics sound recordings.

    Literacy Kansas City provides free, confidential, one-to-one and small group reading help to adults and older teens in the greater Kansas City area. Volunteer tutors receive extensive training prior to being matched with a student. Helping an adult improve their reading skills can improve the situation of an entire family. Most adult students seek our help so they can participate in their children's education, obtain a GED, or improve their job skills so they can better support their families.


    Open Hours: Monday through Thurs., 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

    The OnTrack Program provides basic developmental education on an individualized basis to any person who enrolls in the program. Adults 18 years or older are eligible to attend any of the centers. Persons need to be Kansas residents. (16 & 17 year olds are eligible if they are no longer enrolled in school. Call for more information.)

    Literacy Kansas City - Literacy Kansas City is a not-for-profit organization that provides free, confidential, one-to-one tutoring help to adults and teens in the Kansas City area.

    United States Immigration and Naturalization Service - Provides information on applying for citizenship, including forms and office locations.

    GED Testing Service - The official testing site offers information on the revised GED test as well as state GED testing centers.

    Dave's ESL Cafe An ESL site that offers lots of information.

    TOEFL Test Site - Search through this site for information on the Test of English as a Foreign Language, as well as tutorials and practice exams.
