    Welcome to the Business Reference section at the Main branch of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library. We're here to provide you with timely and accurate information to meet your business needs. Below is a sampling of some of the books and other materials available in the business reference section:

    Directories

    The Main branch has directories to help you locate businesses in the metropolitan area, the United States, and worldwide. These include the Directory of Corporate Affiliations, the Dun and Bradstreet Million Dollar Directory, the Kansas City Metro Business Directory, Standard and Poor's and Ward's Business Directory.

    Financial & Investments

    Whether you are keeping track of a particular stock or mutual fund, or examining financial statements of a company, you will find numerous reference aids to answer your questions. Some of these reference tools include the Mergent Manuals, The Wall Street Journal Index, Standard & Poor's Stock Reports, Value Line and Morningstar Mutual Funds.

    Small Business

    A section within Business Reference has been created to provide information for small business owners or for those contemplating going into business for themselves. The Small Business Reference section will provide information to help you with your entrepreneurial questions.

    Demographic/Economic Data

    The Business Reference area has material that covers economic and demographic data vital to all sizes and types of businesses.

    Electronic Resources

    Business & Company ASAP (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    Searches business and trade journals, newspapers, and company directory profiles for information on companies, markets and industries. Topics include acquisitions and mergers, international trade, new technologies and products, local and regional business trends, and investments and banking. A KANFIND and KAN-ED Online Database Service.

    Business & Company Resource Center (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    Wide variety of detailed global company and industry news and information. Includes company histories and profiles, brand information, business case studies, and competitive intelligence -- information also useful for career and investment decisions. A KANFIND and KAN-ED Online Database Service.

    Business Economics and Theory (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    With a strong emphasis on titles covered in the EconLit database, this collection provides academic journals and magazines focusing on topics in economics. Perfect for business classes, users will find more than 150 full-text journals to support their research.

    Business Plans Handbook (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    A collection of actual business plans compiled by entrepreneurs seeking funding for small businesses throughout North America in the manufacturing, retail and service industries.

    Gale Virtual Reference Library (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    Database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Includes a medical encyclopedia in Spanish: Enfermedades y Trastornos de la Salud. A KANFIND and KAN-ED Online Database Service.

    Morningstar Investment Research Center (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    Data reports cover more than 20,000 securities. Identify stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs that meet your needs and read what Morningstar analysts have to say about potential investments.

    ReferenceUSA (Available from home with KCKPL Library Card)
    Search business and residential listings compiled from phone books across the country. Business database includes information on 12 million businesses searchable by name, industry, SIC, geographic location, and size. Residential database searches more than 120 million U.S. households.

    Value Line (Available only in the Library)
    Offers online access to The Value Line Investment Survey which covers 1,700 stocks in more than 90 industries, along with the Small & Mid-cap Survey, which covers an additional 1,800 small & mid-cap stocks. Includes access to historical reports on companies back to 1997.
