Shimmering Alaska
Mixed Media Artwrok by Elaine Mills
"The works that constitute Shimmering Alaska were inspired by my summer vacation. Traveling with my family and friend, Teresa, we cruised the Inside Passage, stared in wonder at soaring eagles, stood in awe of nature’s beauty, listened intently to the stories of Raven and experienced first hand the raw beauty of America’s last frontier. The sound of calving glaciers, sun lit nights, glistening fjords, and breathtaking vistas will stay with me forever.
Our adventures took us within close proximity of the gentle giant humpback whales, the burly grizzlies, regal Dall sheep, hovering Artic terns, meandering moose, herding caribou, soaring eagles, and an abundance of snow rabbits. And then there was the mountain, Denali, or as most of us know it Mt. McKinley, in all of its glory. As mystical as Shangri-La, it let us - the very luckiest of travelers - pay witness to its soaring peaks as clouds parted and the sun lit the snow like trillions of pieces of tiny glitter.
Shimmering Alaska is a modest interpretation of the delights we experienced on those glorious June summer days. I hope all who visit this exhibition will leave with a smile in their hearts." --Elaine Mills
