Paper Dreams Mixed Media Works by Elizabeth Goslin Elizabeth Goslin grew up in Wichita, Kansas. She has always been interested in art and in creating. She won two art scholarships from portfolios she submitted while in high school. She chose the scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute, where she met her husband. Elizabeth then married and put her career on hold to raise her three children.
Elizabeth worked as a greeting card artist at Hallmark Cards for sixteen years. She was in several exhibitions and traveled to France to paint in the gardens of Monet in Giverny and to see the work of other impressionists in Paris. Elizabeth also traveled to England and Mexico to paint and study. While at Hallmark she was able to study with several fine artists and take part in numerous in-house workshops to further her skills.
Elizabeth lives in Edwardsville, Kansas where she and her husband both have studios. They frequently plan trips to further their interests and to do research.
"My dreams are full of imagining...butterflies, crosses, medieval saints, oriental patterns, days gone by, colors, textures.
I love to use old papers, old music, magazines, stamps, metallic paints, transparent material...things other people throw away. Once I found an old piece of driftwood on a beach, a shell, seaweed. I admit that I even raided a dumpster on South Padre Island for a wonderful piece of corrugated cardboard packing!
The sky's the limit!
I use metallic paints--model paints are the best. Not only are they good on handmade papers, but the newspapers underneath turn out beautiful. When I am all done with the painting, tearing, sewing, etc., I lay out all the parts and let my imagination take over. Collage is an art form with endless possibilities. I can create whatever I like. The only rules are my own to make a good composition. My creations don't have to be like anyone else's. I am in control. They are MY DREAMS!" --Elizabeth Goslin
