Batiks of Tanzania Batik by E.S. Kirita
from the collection of Kate OttingerMr. Kirita is a batik artist who first learned the technique in Uganda in the 1970's. His work is testament not only to his artistic talent and his mastery of the medium, but also to the rich and vibrant culture of Tanzanian daily life which he depicts in his work. Mr. Kirita practices and teaches his art in his workshop in Arusha.
The works in this show are from the collection of Kate Ottinger. Ms . Ottinger travelled to Tanzania last August, spending time with the Massai people and visiting artists like Mr. Kirita. For more information on Tanzania and Mr. Kirita, contact Ms. Ottinger at ktoruss@aol.com.
