Watercolor Glory

Paintings by Pat Ann Black

Pat Ann Black artist takes great joy in capturing the luminosity of watercolors on paper. Rather than focusing on particular subjects in her painting, she paints using a particular palette. The palette for any given work is limited in color selection; Pat Ann challenges herself in her work to use just a few colors, expertly mixed, to develop an extensive range of hues and values. Most of her paintings begin with a broad wet in wet wash, with successive washes bringing more and more definition into the painting. Pat Ann’s paintings are representational in style, conveying a mood that magnifies the impact of the subject and draws in the viewer.

The artist received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana.  Pat Ann is a self-taught artist, and has participated in workshops through out the years with Terry Madden, Hugh Walkinshaw, Kathy Johnson and Ken Hosner.
